Afro-euro-rap

What is Afro-Euro-Rap and how it was born
What do young African rappers residing in Marseilles have in common with those residing in Bologna?
How can they appear within the European musical and cultural landscape?
How can they engage in a cultural exchange through art?
It is from these questions, and from the belief that art is a valuable and ideal meeting place for young people from different cultural backgrounds, that Afro-Euro-Rap is born: its purpose is precisely to allow the exchange and the meeting between people who have a first hand experience of the reality of migration.
The language of rap was chosen for this purpose: rap is one of the more congenial and widespread forms of artistic expression among young people in the world.
Rap was born among black people in the United Stated and has in fact  been appropriated by young Europeans of different extractions and cultural backgrounds; it has become a concrete means of denunciation, but also of affirmation of self identity.

The development of the project
The exchange which took place in Bologna from the 8th to the 15th of June 2001 included several initiatives such as concerts, meetings between consolidated or emerging young groups, and performances in those places where young people normally spend their time.
