Si_cura: migrant women and care for the elderly

 

The project "Si_cura. A community development project in the Pianura Est area" aims to facilitate-promote the integration of domestic assistants into the community, promoting the positive contribution that they can offer, while addressing the community as a whole, with the aim of promoting its wellbeing and resources.

 

The object of the activity is the community development, and the methodology used is that of "research-action", aiming at an active involvement and promotion of change throughout the whole community. It is necessary to consider the fact that this type of work is based on the vision of "integration as an interactive process of change which intertwines old and new values, rules, norms, habits and languages" (Cecilia Edelstein).

 

The project formed part of the Area Plan for Health and Social Wellbeing in the Pianura Est District (Province of Bologna). It involved local authorities, migrant women who provide care for the elderly and associations/companies/private citizens linked to the topics of trade unions, voluntary associations, family doctors, parish priests, social centres for the elderly.
